If you are experiencing low frame rates or stuttering in WebGL browser games—especially on a PC that should easily handle them—your browser might be forcing your CPU to do all the graphical work instead of using your graphics card (GPU).

Enabling Hardware Acceleration allows the browser to offload rendering to the GPU, which is the number one fix for sudden WebGL performance drops. Here is how to enable it across all major browsers.

    Google Chrome

    1. Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of the window.

    2. Select Settings.

    3. In the left sidebar, click on System (or type "hardware" in the settings search bar).

    4. Find the toggle for Use graphics acceleration when available and turn it ON.

    5. Click the Relaunch button that appears to restart Chrome.

Pro-Tip for Chrome: To verify it's working, type chrome://gpu in your address bar. Look under "Graphics Feature Status" and ensure WebGL says "Hardware accelerated".

    Microsoft Edge

    1. Click the three horizontal dots in the top-right corner.

    2. Select Settings.

    3. On the left menu, select System and performance.

    4. Look under the "System" section and turn ON the toggle for Use graphics acceleration when available.

    5. Click Restart to apply the changes.

    Mozilla Firefox

    1. Click the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top-right corner.

    2. Select Settings.

    3. Stay in the General panel and scroll down to the Performance section.

    4. Uncheck the box that says Use recommended performance settings.

    5. A new option will appear. Check the box next to Use hardware acceleration when available.

    6. Close the browser completely and open it again.

    Brave Browser

    1. Click the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.

    2. Select Settings.

    3. Scroll down and click on System in the left sidebar.

    4. Toggle ON the option for Use graphics acceleration when available.

    5. Click Relaunch.

    Opera / Opera GX

    1. Click the Opera logo in the top-left corner and select Settings (or press Alt + P).

    2. Scroll to the very bottom and click on Advanced.

    3. Keep scrolling down to the System section.

    4. Turn ON the switch for Use hardware acceleration when available.

    5. Click Relaunch.

    Safari (macOS)

In modern versions of macOS, hardware acceleration is deeply integrated into the operating system and is enabled by default in Safari. There is no manual toggle for this in the standard settings. If you are experiencing WebGL issues on a Mac, try updating your macOS version or check if a specific Safari extension is blocking WebGL content.
